This module is about the building blocks out of which all living things on Earth are made.  The same few basic elements of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorus and sulfur (CHONPS) form the building blocks or organic compounds and the repetition of the same building blocks makes everything from bacteria to elephants.

In this module you will learn:

  • how polymers are made from building blocks
  • the functions of different polymers
  • how DNA replicates
  • how RNA is copied from DNA
  • how RNA is translated into proteins
  • the functions of lipids and carbohydrates
